Slide 13: The above relief map--produced by Chalk
Butte Inc. of Boulder, Wyoming--provides a bird's-eye perspective on the alternating
ranges and basins of this region. Note the arc of mountains with folds and
thrust faults clearly visible extending from northern Utah--near the western end
of the Uinta Mountains--northward toward the Yellowstone volcanic "hotspot"
and caldera. The linear "Front" (Overthrust Belt) and valleys of
central Montana are also quite visible in the Northern Rockies. Chalk Butte
produces many other maps, images and GIS resources for study of the western US and
the world. Credit: Courtesy Chalk Butte, Inc., Boulder, Wyoming. |
