A Brief History
of the Lobotomy
Psychosurgery can be very beneficial when specific, small areas of the brain are removed,
but the "Lobotomy" is a sledge hammer approach to psychosurgery that has a long
and sordid history. This site discusses this procedure in detail, and even discusses the
most famous lobotomy of all, that of Frances Farmer. (See page 570 in Psychology
