• I have a previous version of CulinarE-Companion™. Do I get an automatic upgrade?
  • If you are a student and you are no longer enrolled in the culinary class that uses the Gisslen textbook that provided you access to the software, you do not get an automatic upgrade. You can buy a new access code to download the latest version by clicking on the textbook of your choice on the home page of this website and follow the instructions for purchasing the software.
• Where do I find instructions for downloading CulinarE-Companion Software for both single user and network versions?

• If I have a previous version of CulinarE-Companion™ installed and I have the registration code to download Professional Baking, 6e, will I lose all of the recipes I added in the previous version?
  • No, you will not lose your recipes. Please read the installation instructions for any previous versions of CulinarE-Companion™ that you have installed on your computer. Click here for the ReadMe file for PC. Click here for the ReadMe file for Mac.
• I have never installed CulinarE–Companion™ before. What are the system requirements?

• How do I purchase more than one Gisslen title to include in my CulinarE-Companion’s™ software?
  • Once you have downloaded CulinarE-Companionn™ with your first Gisslen title, and if you have the registration code for the other Gisslen titles, go to the BCS website that is specific to that title and when you get to the download page, you will just need to download the media files associated with that title. When you relaunch the software, your additional titles will appear.
• How do I change the display of the ingredient values so the software only shows Metric or US?
  • The Preferences function, located on the upper right hand side of the application under the Wiley logo, allows you to update your ingredient amount preference (US, Metric, or Both), change the order of the cookbook titles in the application, and add or rename your own cookbook title. The application displays, by default, both US and Metric ingredient values, when you select the US, Metric, or All button, and you click the SAVE button, the ingredient amount values in the recipe display will change to that selection.
• Can I change the order in which all the cookbooks are displayed in the software?
  • The Preferences function, located on the upper right hand side of the application under the Wiley logo, allows you to update your ingredient amount preference (US, Metric, or Both), change the order of the cookbook titles in the application, and add or rename your own cookbook title.
• How come my version of CulinarE-Companion™ does not come with the Technique Video Library?
  • If you have an older version of CulinarE–Companion™ (2.0, or 3.0) or if you just purchased Professional Baking, 6e, these versions do not include the Technique Video Library. You are able to upload your own videos into CulinarE-Companion™.
    Note: Only the recipes, procedures, images, and technique videos (if available) from the textbook(s) associated with your registration card(s) will be added to the Wiley CulinarE-Companion™ database when you download the software.
• Does CulinarE-Companion™ provide a nutritional analysis of the recipes that I add into the software?
  • Yes, CulinarE-Companion™ will provide you with a nutritional analysis of your own recipes as long as you use the ingredients provided in the software which include the nutrition facts from the USDA. If you select a unit of measure that does not have an actual volume or weight value (cup, pound, liter, etc.) and instead you use "each", "pinch", or "dash", for example, then the software cannot calculate the particular nutritional value of that ingredient and will make a notation that that particular ingredient was excluded from the nutritional analysis. You can add additional ingredients with their specific nutrition facts so that they can be included in the complete nutritional analysis. You can obtain nutrient data for recipe ingredients by visiting the USDA Nutrient Data Laboratory website at www.ars.usda.gov/ba/bhnrc/ndl and searching the USDA National Nutrient Database for the information for which you are looking.
• Can I import multiple MasterCook recipes at one time in this latest version? The previous version of CulinarE–Companion™ did not allow me to do that.
  • Yes, you are able to import multiple .MX2 files (MasterCook files) at one time. You must first export your .MX2 files from the MasterCook software following MasterCook's instructions, then locate the Mastercook .ZIP file on your computer. You can then import them directly into CulinarE–Companion™ and they will be filed under the My Files tab.
• Will CulinarE–Companion™ round up the unit of measure to the next size when I scale my recipe? For example, if my recipe uses 5 oz of an ingredient and then I scale the recipe 10 times, will it convert my unit of measure to 3.125 pounds
  • CulinarE-Companion™ does not automatically convert the unit of measures to the next size in the recipe display screen but when you add the recipe to the shopping list, it converts to the appropriate unit of measure in the "Amount Needed" column.
