JAVA PROGRAMMING WITH CORBA, 2E
Java ORB Products
Java ORBs are today ubiquitously available. Netscape browsers and servers
come with built-in Java ORBs. Java development environments which comply
to the JDK1.2 (or higher) specification provide also basic CORBA support.
Many vendors, too many to list them, offer products which provide Java
ORBs directly or embedded into some higher-level environment such as integrated
development environments or application servers. The OMG publishes a buyers
guide which list many CORBA implementations and CORBA enabled products.
We can also refer to pages maintained by
Tom Valesky, by
Ben Eng, by Doug
Schmidt, by
Wolfgang Lugmayer , and by
Junichi Suzuki which list CORBA implementations, availability of
language bindings and services, and lots of other useful information about
CORBA.
All the examples in the book have been implemented according to available
OMG specifications. However, there are some areas which are not fully
covered by OMG specifications. This applies primarily to the server side
mapping (the Java mapping of OMG's Portable Object Adapter (POA) specification
is to be adopted in spring 1998 and we will cover it in the
Updates and Errata page) and the APIs for the IIOP over SSL.
We have chosen to use Visibroker for Java APIs for using the above described
described features. A trial version of Visibroker for Java can be down-loaded
from the Visigenic Web site. Visibroker
for Java is also integrated in development tools, for example in Borland's
JBuilder - Client/Server.
