Installation Notes

PC Installation:

Installation:

1. Insert the Interactions/Distribution CD into the CD-ROM drive. If the Auto Run menu appears, click 'Install' and follow the on-screen instructions. If Auto Run is disabled or the menu does not appear, select 'Run...' from the Windows 'Start' menu (usually in the lower left corner of the screen) and type 'D:\Go' in the Open box (where D is the letter of your CD-Rom drive), and click OK to run the installation program.

2. The program will scan your hard drive to see which components you need to install and will ask you if you want to install them if they are not already installed. Therefore it may not be necessary for you to install all of the following components.

3. If you do not yet have an appropriate browser installed to view Interactions/Distribution you will be given the option to install Internet Explorer V5.0. Click 'Yes' to install IE5 and follow the on-screen instructions, otherwise click 'NO' to bypass this part of the installation.

4. If you needed to install IE5 your PC will need to be restarted. Once it has restarted you can eject and then reinsert the CD tray - the Auto Run menu will again appear. Click 'Install' to continue installation. If the menu does not appear follow previous instructions as detailed in 1 above.

5. If necessary you will now be asked to install 'Microsoft Java Virtual Machine' if it has not already been installed. Click 'Yes' to install and follow the on-screen instructions. Clicking 'No' will bypass this component. After this installs you will be asked if you want to restart your computer--this is not necessary at this stage, click 'No'. If you select 'No,' please remember to restart your computer before running the Interactions/Distribution program. You will again need to eject and then reinsert the CD, the Auto Run menu will again appear. Click 'Install' to continue installation and follow the on-screen instructions. If the menu does not appear follow previous instructions as detailed in 1 above.

6. You will now be asked, if required, to install Macromedia Shockwave Player. Click 'Yes' to install and follow the on-screen instructions. Clicking 'No' will bypass this component. 

7. The remaining components of Interactions/Distribution will now be installed. Please follow the on-screen instructions.

8. Before running the program please restart your computer.

To run the program after installation:

1. Select the Windows 'Start' menu (usually in the lower left corner of the screen). Select 'Programs,' then 'Interactions,' then 'Distribution,' and click on the 'Distribution' icon or use the Distribution shortcut to launch the program.

Network Installation and Running of the Program.
---------------------------------------------------------------------
The Interactions/Distribution CD can be used on a network by several students simultaneously.
There is no limit to the maximum number of users.

Server computer installation:
Create a Distribution folder on the network server. Make a copy of the whole
Interactions/Distribution CD-ROM to this folder and share this folder to make
it accessible for all networked computers.

Installation for all clients' computers:
Open a shared Distribution folder on the network server.
Assign (map) a drive letter to a network Distribution folder.
Open the Distribution folder and run the Setup.exe application.
This application will install all required components.

To run the program after installation:
Select the Windows 'Start' menu (usually in the lower left corner of the screen). Select 'Programs,' then 'Interactions,' then 'Distribution,' and click on the 'Distribution' icon or use the Distribution shortcut to launch the program.


Brief Instructions to Begin Using your Interactions/Distribution CD:

NOTE: DO NOT 'Close' the Edugen server without logging out of the program first. You may lose data from your study session.

1. Splash screen.
- Click inside the Splash screen to go to the Login screen of the title.

2. Login screen.
- If this is the first time you are using the program, click on the 'New User Registration' button to go to the New User Registration screen.
- Otherwise enter 'User Name' and 'Password' and then click on the 'Login' button to enter the program.

3. New User Registration screen.
- Fill in all the fields and click on the 'Submit' button to complete registration. When the Login screen re-appears, type your User Name and Password, and then click on the 'Login' button.

4. Content List.
- Click on the 'Contents' button on the Navigation toolbar to show the Content List. Use the Content List to navigate through all the parts of the program. 

5. Navigation toolbar.
- Click on the Wiley logo to go to Wiley Web site dedicated to anatomy and physiology at www.wiley.com/college/apcentral.
- Click on the 'Contents' button to show the Content List.
- Click on the 'Help' button to bring up help.
- Click on the 'Bookmark' button to place a bookmark on the current content item. The bookmark placed is displayed as a small icon on the top-right corner of the appropriate content page.
- Click on the 'Notes' button to open a Notes window.
- Click on the 'Search' button to get a search window where you can accomplish a full-text search through the given chapter. Type a word (or two with appropriate criteria), click on 'Search', then choose a link in the list (or double click the line) and click 'View".
- Click on the 'Browse' button to get a window where you can find the main navigation items of the program.
- Click on the 'Concepts' button to show a picture list of all the "Concepts and Connections".
- Click on the 'Shows' button to open the Show window and create your own presentation.
- Click on the 'WWW' button to open a window where you can enter your course URL and link directly to it by clicking on the 'Go' button.
- The 'Exit' button exits the program.
- The 'Prev / Next' buttons allow you to go through content pages.

 

 

Mac Installation:

1. Insert the Interactions/Distribution CD into the CD-ROM drive attached to your Mac. A window will open to show the program icons to be 
installed for running the Interactions/Distribution program.

2. Double-click on the Distribution Installer icon to install the program. 
Follow the instructions appearing on your screen and choose (or create) the folder for the program's runner and some other internal resources required to provide its operation.

After the program has been installed, the installer checks whether all other applications necessary for the program's operation (Netscape v4.7, Apple Java Machine MRJ 2.1.4, and Shockwave Player) are installed on your Mac. If not, it will warn you about those programs that have to be installed. Follow the instructions that appear on your screen.

After the computer restarts, double-click on the Distribution icon to continue installation and start the program. 

Note: It is highly recommended to set the Preferred Size of Netscape's memory partition to 32000K after its installation.

3. To allow for the successful running of the Interactions/Distribution program on your Mac, the TCP/IP communication protocol must be installed. 
The program handles most situations automatically, but if you experience difficulties, please contact your system administrator or refer to the troubleshooting section below.
4. If you connect to the Internet through a proxy server, you need to configure the proxy to work with the program, as follows:
a. From the Edit menu of Netscape, choose Preferences.
b. From the Advanced category choose Proxies.
c. Choose Manual proxy configuration and click on the Configure or View button.
d. Under "No proxy for" type 127.0.0.1


Network Installation

The Distribution CD-ROM can be used on a network by several students simultaneously. There is no limit to the maximum number of users.

Server computer
---------------
Installation:
1. Create a new folder on the network server called 'Distribution'.
2. Make a copy of the whole Distribution CD-ROM to this folder.
3. Run the "Mac Network Setup Configuration" application in the Disease Resistance folder. This application configures the Distribution Installer for network installation.
4. Share the Distribution folder to make it accessible to all networked computers.

Client computer
---------------
Installation:
1. Open the shared Distribution folder on the network server.
2. Run the Distribution Installer application to install the program on the client computer. A 'Distribution' alias will appear on the desktop.

Running the program:
1. To start the program double-click on the Distribution icon on your desktop. You can also start the program by double-clicking on the Distribution icon that is located in the Interactions/Distribution folder on your hard drive. Double-Click on the 'Distribution' alias to launch the program.
