Thomas R. Dulski is an analytical chemist with 36 years of experience in the metals
industry, including both the basic steel and specialty alloy segments. Since January, 1994 he has served as
chairman of Committee E-1 (on the Chemical Analysis of Metals, Ores and Related Materials) of the American Society
for Testing and Materials (ASTM). He is the author of two books: A Manual for the Chemical Analysis of Metals
(ASTM, West Conshocken, PA, 1996) and Trace Element Analysis of Metals: Methods and Techniques (Marcel Dekker, New
York, 1999), as well as numerous technical articles. He has been employed as a research chemist by Crucible Steel
Corporation, Jones and Laughlin Steel Corporation, and, since 1973, by Carpenter Technology Corporation. He has
been involved in nearly all aspects of steel and specialty alloy analysis, including both classical wet chemistry
and instrumental approaches. He is the recipient of the Lundell-Bright, B.F. Scribner, and Ted Linde awards and in
1988 was named a fellow by the ASTM. He also received the Pharmacia Prize from the journal Talanta. Dulski is a
graduate of the University of Pittsburgh (BS in Chemistry, 1963).
