Sandy Lovie

Dr Sandy Lovie is a Senior Lecturer within the Psychology School at the University of Liverpool, U.K.
Dr Lovie started his career as an undergraduate at The University of Leeds and continued his studies at the University College, London as a postgraduate. He worked as a Basic grade Psychologist for the Ministry of Defence before joining The University of Liverpool as a Lecturer in 1966.

He has published numerous papers including most recently, Who discovered Spearman’s rank correlation? British Journal of Mathematical Statistical Psychology. (1995) 48, 255-269; The Social Construction of Outliers (with P Lovie) In I Velody & R Williams eds. The Politics of Constructionism (1998). London; Sage.

His main research interests and current projects are; History, philosophy and theory of psychology; Reactions to the recent American Psychological Association’s guidelines on practice; and Historical treatment of a classic study in traumatic avoidance conditioning and the founders of mathematical learning theory.
