Paul A. Longley is Professor of Geographic Information Science at University College London, where he is
also Deputy Director at the Centre for Advanced Spatial Analysis (CASA: http://www.casa.ucl.ac.uk).
Before assuming his present position, he worked at the Universities of Bristol, Cardiff and Reading, UK.
He has wide-ranging interests in GISc, including geodemographics, urban modelling and the integration of
remote sensing and GIS. He is currently Editor of the journal ‘ Computers, Environment and Urban
Systems’.

Michael F. Goodchild

Michael F. Goodchild is Professor of Geography at the University of
California, Santa Barbara where he holds other posts including; Chair of the
Executive Committee, National Center for Geographic Information and Analysis
(NCGIA) and Associate Director of the Alexandria Digital Library Project.
Before moving to Santa Barbara, he was at the University of Western Ontario
for 19 years, including 3 years as Chair. He has received many prestigious
awards for his contributions to the study of geography and has published
widely in the area. His current research interests include GISc, spatial
analysis, the future of the library, and uncertainty in geographic data.

David J. Maguire, Ph.D.

David J. Maguire is Director of Products at Environmental Systems Research
Institute (ESRI) with responsibility for product development, GIS solutions
and international business. He was formerly Technical and then Managing
Director of ESRI in the UK, and prior to joining ESRI, was a Lecturer in GIS
at the University of Leicester, UK. He has co-authored or co-edited four
other books and over 70 papers on GIS.

David W. Rhind
City University,

David W. Rhind is Vice-Chancellor of City University, London and in January
2001, was honored by the Queen for his contributions to geographical and
social sciences. Before assuming his present position, he was Director
General of Ordnance Survey, Britain’s national mapping agency. He has been
involved in GIS for over 30 years, including working in the Experimental
Cartography Unit, at Durham University and then Birkbeck College, London
and leading teams developing such systems as the European Commission's
Environmental Information System as well as introducing ARC/INFO in Europe
in 1983.
