GUIDELINES
FOR AUTHORS
Chapter length
One printed page of full
text contains approximately 650-700 words per page (if written as one single
paragraph). However, in a book of this type there should be figures and tables
to facilitate the reading and interpretation of content. The running text may
therefore be 60-70 % of the contracted length.
Cover sheet
Each author should supply
a cover sheet with the manuscript which should detail:
- Contributor name in the
form first name, middle initial(full point), surname
- Contributor correspondence
address, telephone, fax and email details
- Chapter title
- Folio count (total number
of manuscript pages including figures)
- Total number of illustrations
- Total number of tables
Figures and Tables
Number the figures and tables
in each chapter Figure 1, Figure 2, etc., Table 1, Table 2, etc. Please indicate
in the text where the figure or table is to be located, e.g. "Table 1 HERE".
References
Refer mainly to overview
articles, books and book chapters. Please use the following style for journal
articles, text books and edited books, respectively:
Henry RR, Wallace P, Olefsky JM. Effects of weight loss on mechanisms of hyperglycemia
in obese non-insulin-dependent diabetes. Diabetes 1986; 35: 990-8.

pancreas. New York: Plenum, 1985: pp 1 - 6.
Copyright permission
Don't forget that you must
obtain permission to use any material which has already been published elsewhere,
either in print or on the WWW. You should ensure that you obtain permission
to use material for all rights and in all media. This means that it is not enough
to secure print only rights, you must ensure that you obtain electronic rights
(i.e. rights to publish on CD-ROM or on the Web.) In order not to delay publication
you are advised to apply for such permission at an early stage. The Copyright
Permission Request form is provided for this purpose. Please photocopy this
form for multiple use.
To record accurate information
about the status of your permissions you must also complete a Book
and Chapter Permissions Catalogue. All paperwork concerning the permissions,
including the permissions catalogue should be sent with the draft manuscript
when you deliver it to the Publisher.
Further information and
guidance can be found on http://www.wiley.com/about/permissions
Keywords
You should list out between
5-10 keywords for your article. These will not appear in print but will be incorporated
in the electronic version of the article for use in online searches.
Abstract
You should include a short
abstract (one paragraph) for your article. The abstract will not be displayed
in print but will be made available free of charge in the online edition of
the work. The abstract acts as a 'taster' to potential subscribers to give them
an idea of what the article is about and to encourage them to subscribe to the
full electronic article.
As the abstract will be
made available independently of the main article, it must contain no direct
cross reference to elements contained in the rest of the article. For example
you should not include in the abstract cross references to figures, tables,
etc which appear only in the main body of the article. Similarly, you must not
include within the abstract citations to references.
Manuscripts
The draft manuscript should
be sent directly to the Publisher. Please send both a paper version and a disk.
Write double-line-spaced
throughout, also for references, table headings, etc. Do not bind or staple
the manuscripts. Figures and tables should be on separate pages at the end of
the manuscript. Photographs must be originals and not photocopies.
The Publisher will be responsible
for sending manuscripts to the Commissioning Editor and the Editors-in-Chief
for review.
Manuscript Deadline
The manuscript deadline
is detailed in your contributor agreement. Please try and adhere to this deadline,
but contact your Commissioning Editor and the Publisher if you know that you
will have trouble meeting the deadline. It is vital that you let the Commissioning
Editor and the Publisher know if you are unable to meet the deadline as we need
to keep track of all the submission dates in order to accurately arrive at an
agreed publication date.
Remuneration
Details of the remuneration
are to be found within your Contributor Contract.
