Eva Wille Honored by SCF
Eva Wille receives SCF award from SCF president Olivier Homolle
Eva Wille, Vice President and Executive Director, Chemistry, Wiley-VCH, has been awarded the Medal of the French Chemical Society (Société Chimique de France) for her role in establishing joint European chemistry journals beginning with Chemistry – A European Journal in 1995. These journals are published by Wiley-VCH on behalf of a consortium of European chemical societies known as ChemPubSoc Europe, comprising 16 national chemical societies from 15 countries. ChemPubSoc Europe publishes eight journals, which have replaced a large number of traditional national journals dating back as far as 1832.
The Medal was presented by SCF president Olivier Homolle during a symposium in Paris in May on the occasion of the 10th anniversary of two ChemPubSoc Europe journals: ChemPhysChem and ChemBioChem. The symposium, Frontiers of Chemistry, was organized by the journals' editor, Peter Gölitz, and featured 10 lectures across a broad spectrum of topics, attended by some 600 chemists. The list of speakers included four Nobel laureates in chemistry, including last year's Ada Yonath. The symposium also marked the launch of ChemistryViews.org, ChemPubSoc Europe's and Wiley's portal for the chemical community, which was spearheaded by Eva. Those unable to attend in person were invited to join a live Webcast of the event through ChemistryViews.org; 5,000 people registered for it.
