Chief Marketing Officer
Clay Stobaugh joined Wiley in August 2011 to create Corporate Marketing capabilities. In his current role as Wiley’s Executive Vice President and Chief Marketing Officer, he heads the company’s global marketing, external communications, and government affairs operations. Under Clay’s leadership, Wiley developed the Marketing Revenue Center (MRC), a Wiley global center of excellence to establish best practices that drive revenue. Key disciplines include customer experience, demand generation, CRM, sales enablement, social media, content marketing, digital analytics and SEO/SEM. The MRC provides skills, leadership, tools and training to advance the capabilities of colleagues, empowering teams to better serve Wiley customers and, ultimately, to enhance business performance. The work of the MRC has received much industry recognition including the 2015 Brandon Hall Gold Excellence Award for Best Learning Program Supporting a Change Transformation Business Strategy.
Prior to joining Wiley in 2005, for ten years, Clay led emerging technology companies in the legal, financial, and healthcare industries to successful financial exits and generated over $200 million in shareholder payouts. Clay’s passion for learning and education led him to raise capital and launch MainXchange, an organization focused on the financial education of young people. Clay also served in senior management roles for Reuters and Nestle Switzerland, where he successfully launched the Nespresso division in the United States.
Clay was selected by the ranking committee of ExecRank as a “Top 100 Chief Marketing Officer” for 2013. Clay is on the Oracle Customer Experience Council and has served on the CMO advisory groups of SalesForce.com and the CMO Council. Praise for Clay’s work includes features in the New York Times with the Harvard Business Review recognizing Clay as a “Performance CMO”.
Clay earned his Bachelor of Arts degree from Tulane University and his MBA from Harvard Business School.
