Slide 5: An isolated extinct tephra cone on the edge of the Virunga volcanoes region adjacent to the older metamorphic rocks of the Zaire-Nile Crest geomorphic region of northwest Rwanda.  See the Ecozones map in the Graphics Gallery.  Note the intensive farming on extremely steep slopes of the escarpment. Lake Kivu is in the hazy distant background.
