Slide 3: Major climate types in the African Great Lakes Region and the Horn of Africa. Obscured within this overall pattern are many smaller micro-climate patterns, e.g. local rainshadow areas resulting from the effect of mountain barriers and local relief changes. See the next two slides for examples of localized climate effects. Learn more about the region's natural and human characteristics from the Exploring the EnvironmentTM module entitled: Mountain Gorillas. See "Continental Scale: East Africa."
