In Series 1 of Inspiring Minds we met Ella Gilbert.

Ella is completing a PhD in Meteorological Science. With a long-standing passion for climate issues, she has sought research as a way of creating impact and change. She believes that sharing science with the public is vital. As an activist and passionate science communicator, Ella is on the front-line of making a difference...

We asked Researcher Ella Gilbert a few behind the scenes questions about her film…

Q. Could you give us a quick reminder about your current research and career?

A. I'm a postgrad researcher, about to finish my PhD in Antarctic climate change. I'm an atmospheric physicist interested in what makes floating ice in Antarctica melt, and how we can use computer models to understand this. Mostly this means I care a lot about things like clouds, weather patterns, winds, and temperatures.

Q. What made you want to share your story with us?

A. Climate change is already negatively affecting us all, and I want everyone to feel like they can contribute to the solutions. I'm in a lucky position where I know some of the facts, and what they mean. Being in that position makes it my duty to share this knowledge with people so we can all take action to prevent the worst effects of climate change.

Q. What’s one thing you’d like people to do after hearing your story?

A. Feel inspired to go and do something positive (whatever that may be).

Q. Could you tell us about your experience filming with us?

A. It was super fun! Sprinting repeatedly through the park, while by-standers looked bemusedly on, was probably a highlight. Either that or cycling behind a 4x4 with cameras hanging out of the back!

Q. What were your first impressions of the film?

A. It was great; I loved the cinematography, the lighting, the setup, the sense of movement, the shots - and most importantly it made me sound amazing! I was very impressed.

Thanks Ella!
